I’d imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, you know. They always come with the exact amount they need. So I figured, if the entire world was one big machine, I couldn’t be an extra part. I had to be here for some reason.  inspired.

Movies I Watched in 2012: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

I had anticipated a six minute visit with each person named “Black”… but they were never just six minutes. Everyone took more time than I had planned for… to try and comfort me and make me feel better about my dad… and to tell me their stories. But I didn’t want to feel better and I didn’t want friends… I just wanted the lock. I wasn’t getting any closer to my dad… I was losing him.

In this changing world, it’s harder than ever to find something extraordinary, but every once in a while a symbol of hope breaks through.

Snow: But why? You of all people should understand. You’ve lost love. What if your pain could be erased?

Grumpy: I don’t want my pain to be erased. As wretched as it is, I need my pain, it makes me who I am. It makes me grumpy. Look around Snow, you’re not alone anymore. I promise you, that’s the only cure you need. If the pain’s too much, you can always drink it. But for today, put it away.

Hugo: What does he do?

Father: He’s a wind up figure, like a music box. This is the most complicated one I’ve ever seen by far. You see, this one, this one… writes. Magicians used these machines when I was a little boy. Some walked, some danced some sang, but the secret was always in the clockwork.

Hugo: Can we fix it?

Father: Of course we can fix it.
